One of the best things about my job is that I get to be involved in one of the most important days of people’s lives – their weddings. Every wedding is special to me and I am always honoured when a couple choose me to create their floral dreams. But let’s be honest it’s the day that most of us girls imagine and dream of from being little girls, so the pressure is on to get it perfect for my brides.
Last year the pressure was really on when Samantha & Greg choose me to complete their wedding flowers. They were due to got married on 5th October 2019 at Fawsley Hall, Daventry.
The venue was beautiful, and the bride had visions to fill it with flowers! So much so that the couple had to hire the rooms for the 4 days leading up to the wedding in order that I could complete all of the decorations.
The floral theme was rich plums shades and dusty pinks with masses of lush green, silvery blue and grey foliage. Sam specifically wanted King, Ice Queen and Bridal Blush Protea which were ordered and flown in specially from Kenya. The roses that she chose were Pink Mondial, Explorer Red and a beautiful claret coloured David Austin rose ‘Tessa’. Sam also asked for Cymbidium Orchids. There were several other flowers mixed in. These all provided beautiful colours and textures for the many different displays.
I had the flowers delivered straight to the venue and spent the first whole day conditioning and organising them. The sheer quantity made it look like the flower market in Covent Garden!
Over the next few days I worked 18 hours a day to create all of the decorations. The hotel kindly gave me and my husband (who I roped in to assist) a room to catch a few zzz’s. The night porters even surprised me one night by moving the flowers to save me more valuable time… this was so appreciated I couldn’t thank them enough.
The actual wedding day came, and I completed my favourite part; presenting the brides wedding flower bouquet to the bridal suite where Sam was getting ready and already looked stunning (in her dressing gown!).
A final wedding flower check was completed of the hotel, which per the brides wishes was full of flowers… it was a wedding florist’s dream come true!
This was the biggest wedding I have ever worked on; it was physically and emotionally (happily!) draining but completely worth it when the happy couple stated that the flowers were everything they had dreamed of and that she chose the right florist.
Sam & Greg, Thank You for choosing me x
